Our music instructors bring decades of experience to our studio!
Suzan Ockey, NATS
A member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Sue has taught voice for more than 25 years. At her commencement from the University of Colorado she was chosen “Outstanding Graduate” from the College of Music where she majored in Vocal Performance and pedagogy and studied theater and dance. She pursued graduate course work in vocal pedagogy and performance at CU Boulder, University of Minnesota, and Oberlin, studying with nationally and internationally renowned vocal pedagogues Berton Coffin, Barbara Doscher, Clifton Ware, Richard Miller, and Patti Peterson.
Sue has performed the lead in many musicals, Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, and several operas. She has been the soprano soloist for “Messiah” with multiple organizations and orchestras, as well as other oratorios. While living in Rochester, Minnesota, Sue was a music instructor and voice teacher at Rochester Community and Technical College for 15 years before moving to Colorado. She performed with the Choral Arts Ensemble, Aria Group, Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and Rochester Civic Theatre. Sue was invited to teach voice classes for the Southeastern Minnesota Honors Choirs, Rochester Barbershop Chorus, and Church of the Resurrection cantors.
As a teacher, Sue loves to hear and watch her students grow in skill, vocal quality and range, musicality, artistry, and confidence. She finds it is so gratifying to see students succeed–to be selected for a musical, choir, solo, university program, or learn to sing in tune and love music. Sue enjoys working with students of all abilities and musical goals. Healthy vocal technique is the foundation of all styles of singing.
